Useful technology emerges from clear decisions about context, responsibility and the way people work. Three considerations for agentic ai.

01

Start with the action

Describe the task an agent can perform, the systems it can access and the decisions that remain with a person. A narrow, observable workflow is a better starting point than an open-ended objective.

02

Separate proposal from execution

An agent can assemble a draft, find supporting evidence and propose an action without immediately executing it. Keep high-impact changes behind explicit approval, and record what the reviewer approved.

03

Design recovery before scale

Tool errors, stale context and duplicate requests are normal operating conditions. Bound retries, persist state and define a route back to a human when the workflow can no longer proceed safely.

Start with a workflow you can understand, observe and improve.

These are general design considerations. Implementation depends on the system, users and operational requirements.
